Our new living room is a decent size and we have a large couch with large chairs, so we were looking for the perfect oversized coffee table. The trick was that we did not want a new one (because the couch and chairs were new), and it had to be durable to withstand a toddler, a great dane, and a dachador.
One weekend, Zak found a rustic old factory cart on craigslist that looked really interesting from the pictures. We decided to go check it out. Problem was, it was in a storage unit. I have some completely ridiculous fear about storage units, so it really did take me awhile to agree to go. I brought my pepper spray 😉 and my husband. He humored my precautions and then laughed as we pulled up and we met the sweetest pair of antique ladies ever! They gave us a brief history on what they knew about it (which wasn’t much unfortunately)
This cart was apparently used on rails. I mean seriously, how cool is this thing?? We do have a bit go work to do. The legs need a some work to get back to a level shape and we want to protect the distressed character of the wood.
It JUST fit in our car
This is it in our living room. We still have to get some rust off (which is why we have the legs wrapped with foam), but we LOVE it. AND, it is the perfect table for our toddler to play cars on because of the edges. We will update as we begin the refinishing project.
